MoCCAfest 2014 Recap!

Hey!

So it’s been a week, and I’ve finally recovered form MoCCAfest 2014.

Check it out!

So Charlie Brown was amazing. PEANUTS is basically why I got into illustration. I love the sincerity!

Selfies with Charles… NERD ALERT.

…as I was leaving for the day, Jack McGowan, fellow illustrator, and now acquaintance photobombed my picture of Charlie Brown! So HELLO new friend Jack!

All in all it was a GREAT day. I felt like poop on the way home- a combo of talking, standing, not eating all day. I think I ate a  head of broccoli and fell asleep at 8pm when I got home.
In related news, I sold ALL of the “EAT YOUR ROOTS” tote bags, so I’ll be making a second edition of those soon. I also want to get this Etsy Shop going with any left over merchandise.

Aside from selling my stuff, I picked up some good loot at MoCCA too:

I got some sweet books from NOBROW PRESS, some cards and book from the awesome Alexandra Beguez. and a little book from Reid Psaltis…because I love hound dogs.

That’s really it. All in all things are really good. Glad to have things slow down a little, but eager to get back in the studio and make more stuff!

Peace & Roots,

Hannah Jane

Update – March 5th

Hello!

I’m so happy to report that I’ve been busy in my studio.

IMG_4410

Last Saturday I drove out to the Print Studio and coated/burned some images on to screens to start printing the book “FUN KITCHEN DANCE PARTY”.

Tuesday I went to the art supply store and bought nice printmaking paper and some illustration board for the covers. I came home and started printing.

I made this print difficult for myself because I had to cut it all up into pieces to fit it onto my screen. I don’t have registration pins so that made it really had to register each print. Some of them are a bit “off” but I think that gives them some charm.

So excited to finish up this little book — it’ll be with me at MoCCA (on April 5-6th) for purchasing!

Oh I also taught myself how to make a cappuccino! (that’s frothed almond milk!) One day I’ll be able to make those crazy cappuccino designs you see at fancy coffee shops.

Gotta go get the ink out from under my fingernails!

Peace and Printmaking,

Hannah

Worry Less & Be More Present

My last goal/intention for 2014- is Worry Less & Be More Present

worryless

This one I have to work on– as I am quite the worrisome person. There are just some things I have no control of (especially being a freelance artist). However, there are things I can control (i.e. the quality of my work, promotions, updating my website etc.)

Being “present” in every moment kind of goes along with “being more productive”, I want to take more time for creating and looking at things, rather then operating on auto-pilot.

Thank you for following along with my blog as I posted my goals for 2014, now it’s time to make them happen!

Dress the Part

Okay, so this one is big for me.

My #4 goal/aspiration/inspiration for 2014 is : Dress the Part.

dressthepart

By this I mean, wear less sweatpants—all the time.

I mean, somedays I go from pajamas, to running gear, to sweatpants! IT’s NOT GOOD. I’m 23 and I just stopped getting dressed. I guess I can say its one of the perks of working from home, but really, it’s just laziness!

I’d like to wear more dresses and girly things — like  a real professional lady.

I feel silly even posting this, but it really is an aspiration for 2014.

Play More!

My second aspiration for the new year is to play more ukulele!

playmoreukulele

I love music! In fact, in high school I played the clarinet, bass clarinet, flute, saxophone and the oboe! I also took piano and guitar lessons back when I was 13ish— I once thought I’d  go to school for music.  Once I graduated high school there just wasn’t enough time in the day to keep up with everything, and I realized what I really wanted to do was focus on my art.

That being said, I never really lost that musical side of yourself, even if I’m focused on other things. I really enjoy the simplicity of playing the ukulele, singing and humming to myself. Its fun! it’s relatively easy and it makes me feel good!

UKE ON!

Hannah

Blog More!

This is my first day of posting  my Goals, Intentions & Aspirations for 2014!

Today’s goal is to blog more this year!

blogmore

I noticed last year, I tend to blog a lot in the beginning of the year and then it drops off by the summertime.  This year, I’d like to blog weekly as a way to motivate me to work on  my own assignments more often.

Cheers to more blog posts in 2014!

2013, Year in Review

As the last day of 2013 approaches I figured it would be nice to recap my crazy-wonderful year. Here goes nothing :

January : I completed my “12DAYS” book, and I started researching a new website design tool, because I wasn’t happy with my old wimpy website. Lets just say it wasn’t as “badass” as it is now. ha.

April : I began sketches on my 2013 Summer Recipe Book, and I had business cards printed.  I also  took a road trip with my best guy and visited Maine. I saw a lot of beautiful things.

June : Took some time off, went on a trip with my illustration nerds, and continued work on the Summer Recipie Book.

July : I finished the book, and started blogging recipes from it. I also did a 2 part mailing of my bathing suit silkscreens, followed by my cocktail silkscreens. I also spent some time in Wildwood/Cape May, eating, running, lounging on the beach, and of course pickin’ the local antique store.

August : I moved my blog around. I took a trip down south to see my Nana and Aunt Pat, two of my biggest fans. I also, mailed out packets of my Recipe book to select publishers. AND I got my first paid illustration job ! Click here to see it!

September : I got my second  illustration job, for a sports publication. I also spend a lot of time just planning and thinking about what I want to do next. I drew a lot in my sketchbook.

October : I got my third job (with Baltimore Bride Magazine) ! Plus I got a new puppy, Welcome Hazel!

November : Went to the Print Center of NJ and  checked that out, I plan to visit and print MANY more times in the upcoming year.

December : I mailed a big stack of cookie postcards, and I made my first pattern, which I then turned into a gingerbread/waffle house!

That’s my year in review.

I did a heck of a lot this year, even though I spent a lot of my time on beaches and away from my desk…

I graduated, and began working doing what I love and getting paid! I mean, who could ask for more?!

I cannot wait for what the next year has in store for me, I’ve got some BIG plans (stay tuned)

Cheers to 2014!
